"You'll never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice." - Bob Marley
When I read this quote from Bob Marley…it brought up all kinds of emotions and feelings.
I found myself reflecting back on all the trials and challenges I had in getting my business and ventures moving forward.
There were many times when I felt that the vast comfort and wisdom of the Universe (God) had just up and left me. I felt abandoned by those that I needed in my court. Yet in hind-site I always found the strength to persevere and make it happen in spite of my circumstance.
However, when I was in it…I was nothing close to being centered, accepting and digging in to my inner power. I admit I felt scared, alone and lost many times.
In fact, my current vision and passion is so epic that it scares the hell out of me on a regular basis. The difference is, I now know how to recognize it and harness it to move me forward.
I know you have been tested, perhaps as you read this article, you are being tested right now in your life. That deal you've been working so diligently on for the past few month has yet to bare fruit and the clock is ticking. Perhaps you're not sure how to break it to your staff that you can't make payroll. Or after countless resume rejections you're beginning to question your worth in the world.
Maybe the money you were expecting to be transferred yesterday is now on hold for some inexplicable reason and now you can't keep your financial commitments that you promised. How about your spouse drops the bomb that they have not loved you in months and has been unfaithful for almost a year.
Yeah they all suck!
All of the above scenarios play out every day to a multitude of people around the world and in your neighbourhood. I'm sure you can add even more challenging ones to the mix too. My point is, if you are alive you will be tested. Everything you think you are will be stripped away to reveal the truth about who you really are at some time in your life. For some…it happens many times. Do you know anyone like that…maybe intimately?
This is not about how you feel you got ripped off and drew the short-straw of life. No! Take a look at the people you envy, you know…those people that just seem to have it all figured out and how sure you are that they have never been to the depths of YOUR personal brand of hell. I have news for you...They have!
The people that "have it all", the people that have their proverbial shit together, well they've gone through their personal hell too! Maybe their going through it now! Everyone has at some point or another. Don't let the Porsche 911, big house or clothes fool you, some people are just very good at hiding their pain better than others. It's a good bet that's what they had to do to earn those lavish things you envy about them.
Going after your dreams and desires will always be a test of your strength. Think of it like a building renovation - Sometimes the load bearing beams and foundation are too weak to support the new structure, so the whole building has to be torn down. Even the foundation has to be rebuilt.
This is what often happens to us when we go through a traumatic experience like the end of a relationship, a business failure or especially when we aim higher than we ever have before. The old self could never fit in to the new world that you desire. So you have to be stripped of your old persona, dramas, people and way of thinking in order to live fully in the new world.
Your inner strength will be tested, this I can guarantee. It's how you use this strength that will dictate your outcome.
Use this strength as a way of telling you that you are not alone…Ever!
Use this strength to remind you that you are here for greatness and must be mindful of what you feed your mind, body and soul.
Use this strength to weigh the friends you keep and the people you surround yourself with.
Use what strength you have left to ask yourself more empowering questions.
One of my favorites is: "How does it get any better than this?"
A great affirmation is: "Everything I need is already all around me."
I always tell my coaching clients, "Trust that what ever it is you are going through is for your greatest good. You will be okay…In fact, you will be better than okay. On the other side of your fear is your freedom."
There is one challenge that most people experience in one form or another when they have hit their version of "rock bottom". They use the last bit of true strength in the wrong way.
Here's what I mean - For many, when they are in the depths of despair, worry and fear, they'll interpret self-help as, "That's just too "Unrealistic" for dealing with my special kind of pain. Only self-pity and lamenting about how bad things are will suffice thank you!"
This is where people will fight for their limitations. This is where people justify any external help as pollyanna, new agey, motivational pep talk crap. Anything to justify and perpetuate the drama they may find themselves in.
That's not you! You are given gifts and talents to move through this world. Sadly most people have yet to discover what those gifts and talents are. For some it takes adversity, heart-ache and pain to find what they are truly made of.
Accept where you are at. Know that you were given this challenge because you have the answers all around you for how to get through it. That's what this unique strength is meant to be used for so please use it wisely. Always keep looking to the horizon and have an unshakable spirit to get to where you need to go.
Know you are on the right path. With what strength you have left…you'll make it!
Remember, You are not alone on the journey…I've got your back!
