"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.
You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward.
That’s how winning is done!
Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth.
But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that!"
- Sylvester Stallone/Rocky Balboa
This is one of the most powerful and most memorable movie scenes and quotes I have ever heard. It's so on point with how life works.
You might be reading this post and are going through your dark night of the soul. You may feel like you are being pounded into the ground and no one is coming to ring the bell to stop the fight.
There's some truth in the latter. No matter how challenging your situation, chances are you are going to have to go it alone.
Sure, you might have a few well-meaning friends or family members, but they can only do so much for you.
Besides they have busy lives chalk-full of their own dramas and challenges to deal with much less deal with your stuff.
It is YOU that has to figure your shit out. It is YOU that has to take the hits until you find the resolve to stop allowing yourself to be in this situation and stand up on your feet, keep your guard up and start hitting back at life.
You have to stop feeling and acting like a victim!
Ouch! Whoa! Talk about kicking a man when he's down!
Ugh! The ego certainly can't stand hearing that!
Hey, I get its tough out there. The shit storm you are going through feels like it was brought on by other people's choices and circumstances. It's not your fault! I get it!
Breathe my friend.
I too had my share of strife, bad luck, hard ache and life's roundhouse kicks to the face.
But it was only when I looked long and hard at how I participated in the circumstances I found myself in.
Yup, I was the common denominator in all my problems.
As long as I continued to blame, project and finger point nothing changed. It couldn't!
There's zero power in being a victim!
Read the again!
As long as you remain a victim of your circumstances you will continue to take the hits!
Every client I have the pleasure to work with goes through the process of "Total Ownership". They find that it's one of the fasted and most effective ways of reclaiming their power and feeling like a man again.
Yeah, owning your shit and taking full responsibility is one of the hardest things to do.
I too sometimes find myself feeling like God is against me. Like it's me against the world.
However, I have done the work enough that those thoughts are now few and far between.
Do this simple exercise:
Think about your biggest challenge, worry or concern in your life right now. The one that feels like a never ending gut punch.
Now imagine you are floating about 100 feet above looking down on yourself and your situation.
See a timeline that connects you and all the people, situations and circumstances involved in this drama.
Take yourself right back to the beginning.
Observe your behaviours, oversights, blindspots, events you took for granted or where you may have dropped the ball just before it all went sideways for you.
Go back further in the timeline to see where you might have said or did something. Even look at how inaction might have played a role.
See it from this 100 foot view so you can see the things that yourself on the ground can't see because it is out of his awareness. See how the dots all connect.
Once you see things as they really are, you can't help but see how YOU played a role in your suffering.
The new awareness that comes can feel like a gut punch too as you realize you may have caused this. You may even realize that perhaps someone might be hurting because of your role in all of this too.
This is a simple exercise but it is not easy. It may take you several attempts to get past the ego's protection mechanism to help you see objectively.
Please do this. It is so worth it! Not only for you, but for those that will benefit from you doing it.
In life there are collisions. People, property and journeys get banged up, totalled and sometimes completely destroyed. However, as much as there are collisions there are no accidents!
That's right! No accidents!
Everything, and I do mean everything, is perfectly orchestrated to be happening in your life for your greatest good. Yes! Your greatest good!
All your circumstances need is a reframe so you can see and get the lesson in it.
You are never given a challenge you cannot handle.
What's happening to you now is a test of your resolve. It's a test to see if you will get up and be a better man. If you will come out the other side with insight, awareness and a new level of understanding about just how amazing and remarkable you really are.
I know it may hurt with what you are going through right now Brother! But this is a journey that never ends. What you are going through now is just a blip in the matrix of your life.
Stand up and declare that this is your place and time. Declare who you are!
Come up swinging by claiming responsibility for your life, claim your power and claim your destiny.
You've got this!
You are not alone on the journey, Brother...I've got your back!
